IHSA puts football overhaul to vote

From IHSA:

The Illinois High School Association's Legislative Commission voted Monday (Nov. 24) to refer six proposals to amend the IHSA Constitution and By-laws to a vote of the general membership. The Commission voted after hearing feedback from member school personnel at 28 town meetings held around the state during the month of November.

One of the proposals advanced by the Commission would require the IHSA to schedule regular-season games for all football-playing schools after placing them into regions based on enrollment. The top four teams in each region, based on regular-season results, would qualify for the playoffs, which would remain at 32 teams per class.

Williamsville rules the day

WILLIAMSVILLE, Ill. – A glance at the final stat sheet did not tell the story of Mt. Carmel’s IHSA Class 3A semifinal game here Saturday.

The Golden Aces ran more plays than Williamsville, while total yardage was about the same.

On the field, however, it was a completely different story. The host Bullets held the field position edge throughout the entire first half. When Mt. Carmel managed to flip the field in the third quarter, the Aces could do nothing with the opportunity.

Williamsville jumped to a 21-0 halftime lead, and then pulled away late from a beleaguered Aces team late for a 42-8 victory. Friday, the 13-0 Bullets face Wilmington (13-0) in the championship game at Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

Mt. Carmel’s season, which included a tri-championship in the Big 8 Conference and advancement to the semifinals for the 10th time in school history, finished at 10-3.

Tony Miller named to all-state team

Mt. Carmel two-way standout Tony Miller has been named to the all-state football team announced this week by the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association.
Miller was named for his work on the defensive line. Saturday, he will be right across the line from two Williamsville all-staters, offensive linemen Nick Cox and Alec Daykin, when the Aces play the Bullets in the IHSA Class 3A semifinal game.

Here is a look at the IHSFCA Class 3A all-state team:

Patrick Althoff DB 6-1 165 Sr. St. Teresa
Jacob Barnes OT-DT 6-3 260 Sr. Newman Catholic
Dylan Binion RB 6-0 185 Jr. Erie-Prophetstown
Tyler Brown LB 5-11 182 Sr. Auburn
James Connor LB 6-2 215 Sr. St. Joseph-Ogden
Nick Cox OL-LB 5-10 200 Sr. Williamsville
Chase Creviston WR 5-11 175 Sr. New Berlin
Alec Daykin OL-DL 6-1 295 Sr. Williamsville

Tony Miller DL 6-1 220 Sr. Mt. Carmel

Aces want to be slower than a speeding bullet

MT. CARMEL – Superman’s claim to fame was being “faster than a speeding bullet.” If Mt. Carmel’s football team is to move past the Williamsville Bullets and into the IHSA Class 3A state championship game, they will need to be much slower than that.

Golden Aces coach Darren Peach said the key to success in Saturday’s semifinal game in Williamsville will be how well his team runs the ball, in contrast to the no-huddle, wide-open offensive style used by the undefeated Bullets.

“Hopefully, we’re able to run the football,” said Peach in advance of the Aces’ sixth semi appearance during his 14-year tenure. “If we have over 40 rushing attempts in the game, we can win the game.”
