Aces finally nail down 5th win

BOONVILLE – In a season of otherwise lopsided wins and losses, Mount Carmel’s narrow Big 8 Conference victory here on Friday night was big for no small reason. The 28-21 victory over Boonville proved the Golden Aces worth in a back-and-forth mettle-testing affair they would certainly expect to find in the post-season. Which is good, since it now appears there will be a post-season.

Eryn Gould, Jackson Marcotte win NFL Punt Pass & Kick crowns

WATERLOO - Eryn Gould and Jackson Marcotte placed first at the Waterloo, Illinois Sectional of the NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition on October 6th.  They will advance to the State Final Team Competition if their scores are in the top 4 of 5 sectional sites in the St. Louis Area.

Metcalf will start against Boonville

Golden Aces quarterback Reece Metcalf will get the start on Friday night in the Big 8 Conference foot-ball finale at Boonville [3-5]. Metcalf was injured in the second half of last week’s 20-0 loss to Vincennes Lincoln, and did not return to the game after reporting some numbness in his throwing arm after a helmet hit.  But, Aces coach Darren Peach reported that he has since returned to action.

No jitters for Jasper

JASPER—Mount Carmel’s shockingly fast start didn’t seem to faze the Jasper Wildcats here on Friday night.

Just enough defense

It seemed as if the football world had been turned on its ear in the first half on Friday night at Riverview Stadium. Mount Carmel and Washington had already combined for 67 points and almost 700 yards of total offense. In the second quarter alone, five of the seven touchdowns scored came on plays of 50 yards or longer.
