Future of Aces golf on display at S.K. Smith tourney

MOUNT CARMEL — The future of Mount Carmel High School golf played itself out Monday at Mount Carmel Golf Course. The S.K. Smith Junior golf tournament brought together boys and girls ages 5-18 to play rounds of between three and nine holes.


Incoming Aces sophomore Blake Golden won the oldest division for boys, 14-18 years old. Golden fired an 18-hole round of 79, good for a two-shot win over his Aces teammate Paul Ruth.
Jordan Keepes, one of the leaders of a Lady Aces team which will be a strong contender for a state tournament berth, topped the 14-18 girls division with a round of 86.
The 12-13 year old division played a nine-hole round. Digger Smith won the boys title with a 35, with Caleb Applebey’s 53 next in line. Dakota Clevenger finished third at 58.
Maya Smith won the girls title with a round of 52, good for a six-shot win over McKenna Golden.
Smith was named the overall winner among nine-hole players. Maddie Young, who won the 10-11 year old girls round, proved to be the best on the day at that length with a 50.
Daisy Schrader finished second behind Young with a 60, two shots ahead of third-place Lily Gottman.
On the boys side, Kreison Smith won the 9-10 crown with a 46. Gavin Smith was next at 53, just ahead of Owen Dougherty’s third-place round of 55.
Golfers in the 8-9 year old division played three holes. Zane Smith’s 21 topped the boys field, six shots better than Ian McFarland’s 27. Quaid Kanipe was third at 28.
Emily Gottman won the girls division with a three-hole total of 15. Elizabeth Hefner and Marin Kennard both tied for second with rounds of 19.
In the youngest division, for those between 5-7, entrants played three holes. John Hufner fired a 21 for the lowest score, followed by Zaren Smith, two shots back at 23. Jack Seaton and Will Hudson were tied for third, each with a 25.
Two players tied for the top spot in the girls division. Miley Kennard and Heritage Smith both shot rounds of 22. Zeme Smith was next at 28.
