Hills challenge Aces runners

FAIRFIELD, Ill. - There was a new challenge facing the Mt. Carmel cross country teams on Wednesday in Faifield.
"The three-mile course showed slower times, but our runners had a great race considering the hills throughout the course we have not been up against this year," said Aces coach Steve Perry after the five-team Fairfield Invitational.

The boys team finished fourth with 83 points. Fairfield won with 36 points, followed by Lawrenceville with 40 and Hamilton County with 58. North Clay trailed the Aces in fifth with 132 points.
Grady Wilkinson led the Aces with a second-place finish and a time of 17:30. Dylan Brown took 17th in a time of 20:13. Then came Andrew Carwile (21:00), Austin Rodriguez (21:22) and Trent Thompson (22:58) in 20th, 21st and 22nd place, respectively. Jonathan Miller also finished 25th in a time of 24:40.

In the girls meet, Madeline Jones led the way for the Lady Aces with a third-place finish and a time of 22:39. Finishing closely behind was Callie Dunkel (23:48) in fifth. Jenny Sutton took 10th in a time of 26:33, followed by Bri James, 14th in a time of 27:42.
Mt. Carmel and Hamilton County did not have enough runners to register a team score. Lawrenceville won with 46 points, the host Mules totaled 70 and North Clay 76 in the meet.
