Perfect timing for Yellow Jackets

ALLENDALE - The timing of Allendale’s first-ever fall baseball win as a coop team with St. Mary’s couldn’t have been better.
The Yellow Jackets 17-11 win over Clay City came Tuesday in the first-round of the SIJHSAA Class S Regional tournament.
Advancing on to the tourney’s quarterfinal round. Allendale lost to top-seed West Salem, 15-0, to conclude the season.

Clay City took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. The advantage was short-lived, however.
Allendale came roaring back in the home half of the first, sending 16 batters to the plate in a 10-run outburst.
Chase Keepes was hit by a pitch, singled, and scored two runs in the inning; Aden Gill walked and singled and also scored twice. Also tallying runs were Madison Smith (as a courtesy runner for Gary Harness), Elliott Gill, Max Zimmerman, Gehrig Jones, Logan Richards and McKenzie Smith.
Even with a 10-2 lead, that illusive first win would be far from easy.
Clay City came back with three runs in the second inning, four in the third and one run in the fourth to tie the game, 10-10.
Allendale, after getting a one-out single by Richards in the bottom of the fourth, tied the game at 11 on an RBI single by Aden Gill.
Both teams put up single runs in the fifth, Allendale’s coming on three straight hits from Jones, Tate Crowe and Richards, the latter scoring Elliott Gill, who opened the frame with a walk.
After holding Clay City scoreless in the sixth, Allendale broke things open with five runs in the home half to account for the final of 17-11.
Scoring runs for Bob Bowser’s team were Aden Gill, Harness, Max Zimmerman Jones and Crowe.
Aden Gill went all 7 innings for the Yellow Jackets and was the winning pitcher.
